guess what arrived!

And... guess what has to go back? That's right the lovely office console arrived but had all kinda scratches on it so now it's being replaced. Sigh.

The only good thing about it being here is that I will be able to size out where the floating shelves will go and install them by the time the replacement arrives.

They told me to keep it wrapped up but I couldn't resist putting things on it just to see what it would look like with the Golden Girls collection on it.

It looks great. I love all of it.

And yes indeed, that TV, cute as it is, is too small and will be replaced.

i WANT

They are now available in PINK and TURQUOISE and I want them BOTH for no discernible reason.
If they existed before I bought the gray one, would I have purchased the turquoise one? I mean, I wouldn't have bought the pink one 'cause the closet was already going to be pink. Or would I?

ideas for the master closet

It's not much but I made a little board of ideas for the master closet.
It's more about a vibe of a place where a 31 year old grown ass woman can get herself dressed for work in the joys of seeing her clothes perfectly laid out with a place for everything and everything in its place.

adios summer '13

It's been a pretty freaking great summer. I'm particularly pleased about the fact that it was 5 weeks of mostly outdoor activity and that most of the outdoor activities were spent with friends or family. The running alone thing is nice but nothing beats all the golfing with friends. Here's the final outcome:
On the last official day of summer I did the big purse switch. The neon pink purse on the right has been with me all summer, and while I usually switch out handbags frequently for some reason I never did with the neon pink purse. Can you believe I found a flamingo sunglass case? To the left is the designated fall bag and designated fall sunglass case.
The saddest part was switching to fall nail colors. I got a grey and while I was gonna get a dull green on my toes I could not resist the neon-y peach color. It's almost fallish and anyway, nobody is gonna see my feet anymore, it's mostly gonna be sneakers and flats around these parts.
The summer clothes are in a pile in the closet waiting to be put into storage boxes. I wasted no time with busting out the fall getups, I take seasonal switches very seriously and even though it's Southern California and the weather is mostly awesome (suck it, anywhere else) all the time, I take the colors thing seriously. No more neon. Time for some orange, purple, navy, grey, teal, and black.

six

As we left that day, we got PELTED with flowers. They were not tossed, they were chucked.
We've had our ups and sometimes life has pelted us in the chest but here we stand.
Hand in hand.

Happy Anniversary, beloved.

closet time closet time

The end of summer, the beginning of fall. During the seasonal changes I like to really switch out the clothes in my closet and bring out the items (sweaters and long socks) that have been in storage boxes. Switching out the clothes process takes a few hours so while that's happening, do enjoy these lovely images of closets that are inspirations for our eventual closet remodel.
Have a good weekend gang. Maybe you can get busy in a closet or two.

pretty bathrooms

I know that to women, bathrooms are everything. It's the magical place where you can bathe and make yourself pretty in the morning. Where you are alone with your I dunno, thoughts? Poops? I've never been so enamored with bathrooms. I am thinking of one woman when planning the eventual re-do of the master bathroom: the girl who will next own this house because yes folks, I already think about selling this house almost immediately upon purchasing it, as all good homeowners should, and I know that a nice master bath will aid in the resale of this house.

After living with this bathroom for the better part of a year, I've come to the realization that the layout makes for very narrow getting ready space.

And it might be better if it was laid out like this
And because I've been checking out the things I pin I've realized that I am really into clean, all white bathrooms when it comes to the master with touches of marble, subway tile, green, and navy.
I'm also pretty into little nooks built into the bath area.
I'd also love to incorporate something about the fact that it's a his and hers bathroom where both of us can be shown in some sort of quirky way.
Maybe different mirrors? One ornate girly one for me and a solid one for Matt?
And I also like the idea of brass hardware in there because the master bedroom will have brass lamps and brass ceiling lights and it would be fun to continue that in the closet too with brass lights.
So that's the general feeling. I'll try to put a little board together for it.

behold: a shower curtain

Last night I got a text from Matt asking if I knew where the razor blades were. "Why?" "Working on a little project." He said and surprise, I come home and this...
Became this:
He removed the shower doors! The ugly, hideous, I keep banging my freaking foot on it shower door was gone and out of our life. WOO HOO. It instantly felt larger.
He was trying to get the tension rod up as I got home and we realized that in order to put up the shower curtain we already had, one would need shower rings. So off to Target I went.
I'm so happy with the new shower curtain. And even happier because Matt said "I like it but it's a little plain, maybe it needs something with a pattern." Be still my beating heart, he suggested a pattern. Oh Matt, if I didn't already love you like crazy...
This shower curtain situation makes the whole lack of anything going on in the master bathroom very palpable. We'll talk about ideas for this room soon, it's honestly my most trying room.

times ten

There are ten doors in our house with doorknobs and they were all different. Some were brushed nickel, some were cheapy gold.
Not no more!
This is one of those updates that is fairly small, didn't cost much and is actually very simple to do, way too simple. But oh man, so worth it to walk into the laundry room and see all of the knobs in the same style and color!
We used the Kwikset brand which were the same for our outside doorknobs and went with the black finish 'cause well, duh, it's us, black and white is our thang.
I installed all of them myself too. I was just gonna do the ones in my office but was honestly enjoying myself too much and Matt let me have at it. He's got lots to do this week around here, I'll help out with this fun little project. It's not a big change but it's a good change. Totally worth it.
And so finally a weekend was spent accomplishing a home improvement task around here.

Though we did play golf too. Maybe one can do it all?

its the freaken weaken

Two more weekends until the official end of summer. I'll be putting away flamingos and hot pink things in general. It's a mourning period around these parts, not that these guys notice:
Every weekend I plan on spending time in the office or around the house doing stuff but life (cough golf cough) keeps getting in the way. Though I think that I get a free pass since it's SUMMERTIME and I want to spend all time possible outside. Also, please high five me, I ran three mornings this week.
Matthew and I will be celebrating 6 years of wedded awesome-sauce in two weekends on the first day of fall for 2013. If you recall, we were married on the last day of summer in 2007.

Our plan this year: probably golf again. The move to Los Angeles is changing our tradition so for the next five years we'll be hitting up fancy restaurants near our hood that are vegan friendly.

Have a good weekend gang. Celebrate the little things.
