A chick on a house tour on Design*Sponge who has a family of all boys (I can relate, though mine get fleas and hers presumably don't) and her dining area kept becoming a dumping ground for kid stuff so her solution, was to keep the table constantly set.
The dining area in the kitchen is RARELY used and nothing really gets dumped there but I dig the idea and have already copied it, in my own way sans shabby "chic". Or as Samantha would say "Shi**y Chic".
